ACME Fireworks Safety for Territory Day 2015!

Making the day extra special by buying ACME fireworks is a treat for everyone, but there are a few things you have to keep in mind!

Kids

Territory Day is a day for fun, a day for everyone, especially the kids. When you’re setting up the fireworks as a safety precaution please keep the kids away, as although fireworks are something to be enjoyed, they can be dangerous. Remind the kids that the best view point for most fireworks is actually 30-50 meters away from the firing point. Ash, embers and other small falling debris are another risk factor during a fireworks display, so making sure that the kids are out of the debris field and wearing enclosed shoes is a must. Also some of our fireworks are a lot louder than others so hand out some disposable earplugs to the kids before you start the display.

At the end of the day we at ACME fireworks want to make sure that you are enjoying our products to the fullest extent and keeping the little ones happy and safe will be sure to keep a smile on your face.

At every fireworks show there is a risk, great or small, of starting an uncontrolled fire. To minimise the risk of injury and property damage it is useful to have buckets of water on standby at the firing point and at areas that you have assessed to have a greater fire risk. You may identify burning embers that have a risk of starting spot fires so the best thing to do is (given that you are wearing enclosed footwear) stand on the ember, depriving it of oxygen and putting it out (like putting out a cigarette).

If a spot fire starts use the closest bucket of water and tip the water on the fire. If you find yourself in a situation where a fire has become big enough to be of concern and out of your control call 000. Also remember that after the fireworks have fired they may remain hot or contain embers so if you find a burning firework that has been fired tip water on it to put the fire out.

Sometimes when you light a firework nothing happens, this is called a misfire. A misfired item is unsafe as it is still considered live. The correct way to deal with an item that has misfired is to wait 30 minutes then pick it up off the ground, making sure that you are pointing it away from your body, then immerse the misfire in a bucket of water and leave it there overnight to assure that the item is neutralised. Once the item has been immersed overnight it is then safe to dispose of.
